Beginner's Mind Yoga School

Beginner’s Mind Yoga School 300HR Teacher Training

Yoga Alliance certified school & training

Her depth of knowledge shines through every class, personal interaction, and workshop that she leads! Her classes are designed with thought and care, where themes are not just repetitive earworms but thought-provoking messages that linger long after savasana. Each class Maggie teaches offers a unique and functional flow with modifications for all body types and abilities. Maggie’s skill set is unique in that she can translate her yoga intelligence into layman’s terms so all yogis can comprehend and take something new away from her class. I cannot recommend Maggie enough; I have been searching for a teacher and mentor to match her caliber since meeting her in 2018!!

The apprenticeship-style 300hr yoga teacher training is a one-on-one training between the apprentice and Emily Unwin, the lead trainer, Maggie Scruggs, co-facilitator, and guest teachers over the course of 10 to 16 months. Two apprentices are accepted per year.

The apprenticeship mixes weekly one-on-one meetings with self-guided learning dependent on your specific interests and Yoga Alliance requirements. Examples of topics covered: yoga philosophy (Samkhya and Tantric philosophies), anatomy, “advanced” asana, sequencing techniques, mythology stories, study of ancient texts, meditation, pranayama, appropriation versus appreciation, Sanskrit, modifications and prop usage, energy work, astrology, music, cueing, leadership development, yoga as service and action. Weekly meetings can be structured as lessons, book club, feedback sessions, asana practice, practice teaching, inquiry sessions, discussions, and assignments. Expect these weekly meetings alongside two immersion-style weekends over the course of the training.

An apprenticeship model is different than the more popularized RYT-300 large group-style training in that it is more flexible, more personalized, and is solely held between the trainers and apprentice with options for connecting to other apprentices in community-based and immersion-style ways. This model is perfect for people who prefer self-study, individualized teachings, and have a specific niche of interest that they want guidance and growth in.
